In Islam fasting is known Siyam or Sawm. Islam has five pillars. And the Siyam is the fourth of the five pillars of Islam. In Islam Muslims are prohibited eaten and drinking water or other thing from Fajr to Magrib. Fasting helps especially self-control. People can control their anger and especially they can understand that fasting is a gift from God. In Islam Muslims are fasting for one month for the sake of ALLAH. It is called the month of Siyam ar Ramadan month. During the fast a person put down their emotions and desire in loving allegiance to ALLAH. Fasting also helps a person controlling ones desires and focusing more dedicated to ALLAH.
"The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful."-(AL BAKARAH :185)

An American scientist found that the mental focus achieved during Ramadan increases the level of brain-derived r, which causes the body to produce more brain cells, thus improving brain function. A person can easily attention his daily work or his study.
# fasting can help you to ignore many sins like zina , teasing girl, masturbation, watching pornography. Prophet Muhammad (SA) said ,
“o my young people ! whoever among you can marry,should marry.Because it helps you to lower your gaze and guard his modesty. And whoever is not able to marry , should fast as fasting demising his sexual power”(BUKHARIH:5066)
